3 CEO’s Control 80% of Music (2017)

May 2, 2017

You will never hear a protest song on mainstream radio. That means there is no revolt allowed in music. That’s why the revolt in music.

For all musicians out there, unless you are one of 6 main pop stars, you have been marginalized out of a career by 3 CEO’s that run the music business. Join the Dallas rebellion or start your own. For those who want more information…

There are 3 record companies that control 80% of the business, Warners, Universal, Sony. Each has a CEO. That’s 3 CEO’s controlling the music industry. They are in turn owned by the few major media conglomerates. Through this synergy, these few companies make the music, distribute it, promote it on their entertainment outlets, and then give themselves great reviews in the media they own.

Help by two very small things. 1. Pass the word that 3 CEO’s control music and have done great harm to thousands of musicians and 2. Support the musicians that are actively against all this.

The 3 have made it clear,
We only support a generic pop sound. We only promote that type of music, and only for a few. (Swift, Beyonce, Bieber, Adele, Gaga, Perry, and the pop star of the week.)

What else are they saying?

You play folk music? We don’t do folk, so you are out of a career. You play heavy metal? We don’t do heavy metal, so …
You play religious music? We don’t do religious music, so … You play classic rock? We don’t do classic rock, so …
You play classical music? We don’t do classical music, so … You play roots music? We don’t do roots music, so …
You play music and you aren’t a 20 something? We don’t do your music, so … You play kid’s music? We don’t do kid’s music, so …
You play jazz or big band? We don’t do jazz or big band, so… You play instrumentals? We don’t do instrumentals, so …
You play old style soul, r & b, or rap? We don’t do old style, so … You play protest music? We of course never make waves, so …
You play in a new style, are innovative and leading the way? We don’t do that ever! You play ???. We don’t do ???, so you are out of a career – period.

Three CEO’s Control 80% of Music

April 21, 2017

Three CEO’s from Warners, Universal, and Sony control 80% of the music industry and have ruined it. Here’s more.

2,500 Hits – More than Warners, Universal, and Sony

Dear Readers,

The Texas Video Showdown has hit 2,500 hits.
(Hits something Warners, Universal, and Sony are having a hard time making!)

The worst video ever made on purpose, on youtube, continues to attract those who don’t think 3 CEO”s from Warners, Universal, and Sony should control 80% of the music business, promote only teen pop from the same stars, never change, and marginalize all other musicians out of reasonable careers.

Look for yourself, there are more hits here than all corporate music combined!

TeXas Video Showdown and CD Baby Conference

July 4, 2016

Dear Reader,

Today on the 4th, a day of our country’s independence, my music protest TeXas Video Showdown, crossed another small milestone. The video has added another 100 views.

Recently I wrote to my online music distributor CD Baby about the protest. They are having a musical conference soon. I suggested that the music industry needs a change and that they should cover that at the conference.

I think unless we oppose the music industry controlled by 3 CEO’s, no CD Baby musician, or any musician anywhere has a fair chance for a career.

Here is my letter and their reply. Thanks CD Baby.

CD Baby,

Will you be discussing the music protest against 3 CEO’s running music, and only supporting teen pop?
The protest is from Dallas, supports all musicians and opposes a music industry down to 3 companies that control 80%.

Hope you will. That change alone would help everyone have a chance at a career.
Sometimes a little protest brings vitality to the music industry. It sure could use it now.

This post is about the 3 men that control all the music.
That is not an exaggeration, it is a fact.

Texas Music Office and TeXas Video Showdown Support

May 23, 2016

Dear Musea Readers,

Lately I’ve gotten some support for the TeXas Video Showdown, a musical protest against an industry controlled by 3 CEO’s, from the TEXAS MUSIC OFFICE in Austin..

Marc Fort from the Texas Music Office, saw my post, liked it, commented on it, and sent me a guide to resources so that I could pass the word on to other Texans.

==========

Hi Tom,

I love that line: “time to change the music industry so it’s built on talent and not publicity.”

It’s true that *the traditional music industry* is distributed and controlled by 3 multinational conglomerates, and the men that lead those companies.

The great news is that the playing field for having a career in the music industry is more wide open than ever. Prior to the Internet, musicians had to almost completely rely on the record labels for national and international distribution. Now it’s perfectly normal for musicians to have long, healthy, prosperous careers independent of the traditional industry.

Commercial radio is still very tough for independent artists to break into… because of the conglomerate consolidation, but independent and college radio do provide artists with opportunities.

Please feel free to give the Texas Music Office a call on Monday (when we’ll be back in the office), or shoot us an email at music@gov.texas.gov, and we’d be happy to send you some resources for the various genres you listed above (genres outside of pop music).

We have a ton of resources for indie musicians of all genres!
Thanks for sharing this! Did you write it? It’s really well done and thought out. I’m checking out the link to the TeXas Video Showdown now.

Best regards,

[And later after viewing the TeXas Video Showdown video:]

Loved the video! Reminded me of an old school rockabilly rave up! Thanks for sharing.
… I really, really enjoyed the song! I look forward to finding & hearing the studio version, because this video immediately made me want to hear another version where I can hear the vocals better.

We’ll definitely help spread the word! Musicians are organizing in DFW, San Antonio, Lubbock, & Austin, spurred on by some of the same inspirations. There’s a new nonprofit org up near your area – Hear Fort Worth – that’s organizing in an attempt to change some of the ongoing issues in the music industry.

Thanks again for sharing that rave-up! …

Cheers,
Marc
