Jimmy Webb’s New Release of Duets (September 10th)

Jimmy Webb, one of the country’s best composers, is releasing a new album of duets with a number of notable musicians, called “Still Within The Sound Of my Voice”. With that in mind I’d like to reblog my post on my new lyrics for his 60’s classic MacArthur’s Park. See them here and read why I chose to do a new version. This one is for you fellow musicians out there.
Are you writing your own songs? Well as a songwriter for
over 40 years,I congratulate you.
I would also encourage everyone to try to write music. It’s
something that should be added to the curriculum in every school. Schools should teach the basics to young people – all young people and let them give it a try. It is an exhilarating experience. Trust me! Composing music is a lot like guitar playing. Just about anyone can learn to play the guitar, though only a few play well.

And songwriting is like that too. And though EVERYONE should
give it a try, I would also encourage almost NO ONE to record
and inflict their first efforts on any audience. In other words
