Poems of Love and Loss

April 12, 2018

1.
When you
drink this tea
let it’s scent
recall this day.

2.
Emotional Blackmail
(My version of a poem by Blair Ewing)

For my art I charge no rent
for your space within my heart.
Nor do I pray God’s interference.
(Seek no ends, only soft words
between two friends I thought were close.)

And if my reasons won’t persuade,
plagued with error and tinged with rage
Lady, the blame is mine alone.
Let the error die on the page.

3.
He called her “First Snow”.
That was his pet name for her.
She swirled around him and made him smile,
and agitated his eyes in a good way.
She brought to his cheeks a rose red
and her every touch tingled.

4.
If she needs a kidney, I” give her three!

5.
She thought and thought –
his gray winter coat
fading into the
brown and bare branches

6.
Does it really
do any harm
to love another
from afar?

7.
Don’t go to sleep
my dear, my dear.
Watch over me
until I do.

Vision Poems

March 27, 2018

What is a VISION POEM?
WARNING: This is not ‘Poetry 101’. This is advanced. Vision Poetry does not rhyme (most of the time), and it’s not what you are used to. If for any reason, after reading two or three of these short poems, you don’t ‘GET IT’; please, fold up the zine page , replace it on the stack where you found it, and slowly back away from your computer.

Now that we’ve gotten rid of the neophytes, let’s continue. Vision poems are part koan, part hallucination, part vision, slightly enlightening, and peppered with occasional eureka moments. They are word pictures, dreams, fantasies, jokes, lightning strikes, and kafkaesque situations. Read them with a sense of adventure. Then see if the startling images – somewhat like what a painter might see in his mind before beginning his new work – suggests anything deeper or more profound. Enjoy and let me hear what you think.

the white stones
began to float
rise up and
turn to stars

Year of the too close Moon.

My garden decided
it didn’t need me!

I imagined an orchard
in full bloom
and an orchard behind it
and an orchard behind it
and …

howling wind in a
haunted wood…

Quatros 1/2018

January 27, 2018

What is a QUATRO. It’s a new type of very very short poetry that usually compares two things, in a haiku way, packing a lot of meaning in a very small amount of words. There is usually a very real comparison between two things, and behind it a 2nd deeper meaning. – Tom Hendricks

the sun crosses
my shadow lengthens

orange
orange

lack of want
lack of wanting

it’s snowing
obstacles.

love songs
star dust.

spring is in
the garden.

hold my hand, shadow
and never let go

white snow fields
black river

makeup,
thin ice

star dusted
eyes

blue sea
blue sky

blank book
full of pressed leaves.

Poems of Love

August 19, 2017

You’re mad at me
but your eyes falter
there’s still enough love
to get us through

words stuck
in her throat
she hesitated …
he is lost.

I would look out the tower window
and smile at the handsome young men
who crossing by would wave to me.
(Inspired by Tsang Chih , 6th c.)

Her touch
like a painter’s brush
swept across my arm.

why is your head
bowed?
There are no stars
on the ground.

now each step
we take together
makes our bound
that much stronger

Hope is a Wall ….

hope is a wall
