Gaining Ground – Independent Labels

May 22, 2018

Dear Reader,

The independent labels are gaining ground. This year is the 2nd in a row that Independent Labels control a bigger share of music revenues than any of the 3 major labels.

This from the digital music article “Collectively, Indie Labels are Now Bigger Than Any Major Label”

Indie labels are now outranking major labels in terms of total marketshare. In fact, this is the second-straight year that’s happened.

Rankings are based on revenues earned, instead of units sold or total streams.

Specifically, indies pulled a 32.2 percent marketshare, with Universal Music Group following at 29.7 percent. Sony Music Group finished with 21.9 percent, while Warner Music Group lagged with 16.7 percent.

Independents 32%

Universal (UMG) 30%
Sony (SME) 22%
Warner (WMG) 16%

Cello (new song, lyrics, and video)

May 2, 2018

Here is a preview of a new song of mine, called Cello.
The lyrics tell of a man who hears a woman playing cello through the apartment walls and falls in love with her.

The youtube video, with a rough demo of the song will be out soon. Till then here is the lyrics.

CELLO (c) Tom Hendricks 2018

1.

I was caught off guard, reading some books one day

When I heard next door, someone began to play.

Cello practice there. She played some scales to start.

Then after a pause, she played a piece by Bach.

Chorus

First she played it sweet like a Siren sings

Then she played it rough like a stormy see

Passion in her bow as her cello rang.

Passion in my heart, not too far away.

(guitar lead, then repeat chorus )

2.

Music shows the soul. Its more than skill or rote.

When she strums the strings, feelings in every note.

(I) listen when I can, don’t want to miss her play.

(I) really have to find some way to meet some day.

Chorus (repeat).

Two Music Videos

April 14, 2018

Dear Reader,

Two new youtube videos.

Two rough music videos recorded live. These are previews of songs I hope to record in a studio later like my 9 albums, 150 songs.

GOODBYE TO WAR (youtube video) 1:14 long
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxL6lQQ_83Q

Protest song. Though I’ve written 1,900 songs this is one of the few protest songs. But it just seemed due. Remember too that mainstream radio does not play any protest songs ever! That’s part of the music (and arts and media) revolution.

LULLABY (youtube video) :30 long.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PnlpvhiZYWQ

This is a Mother Goose Rhyme with a melody I wrote and sang a cappella.
