Want to go to Mars?

January 20, 2018

Want to go to Mars?

Yes, everyone would be excited about a manned mission to Mars,
Yes, I love science, and have even written a huge sci-fi novel* that is a history of the future that features colonies on Mars. Yes, that would be great but first ….

The science community has to find some solutions for problems here on Earth. Solutions that end poverty, get clean food and water in abundance for all, end major diseases, devise low cost power, and combat global warming,

THEN, everyone will be on your side and behind you. Then everyone will cheer when the first rocket sails for the Red Planet, lands and returns.

First things first. Then go with the world’s blessings!

Rock Band Challenge 2017

September 19, 2017

Challenge to all rock bands in 2017.

So, you’ve had 50 years to do rock better than those in the 50s and 60s. Let’s see what you’ve got.

First listen to this 2017 cover of the classic hit, 25 or 6 to 4, originally recorded by the rock band Chicago in 1969. Then show me something better. Rock bands you’ve had 50 years to improve, so show me something better.

This cover is by Leonid & Friends, a band from the Ukraine. I don’t know this band, but it is my contention that hardly any rock band today has recorded a better rock classic with a better arrangement than what Chicago did in 1969 and Leonid and Friends covered virtually note for note in 2017. By using their version the tune has a tech update so it can compete on the same tech quality as anything recorded this year.

My contention is that rock has not gotten better, and it’s time for a change, a revolution in music. See Musea.

This is NOT saying that musicians today are not talented. They are for sure. My Big List, the first list of the best music of the entire internet and the world, proves that with 200+ examples. But it also proves that the same rock band format has not improved in 50 years, and the best musicians are those that are trying new music, or at least recreating the spirit of the original musicians exactly.

So to rock bands in 2017 who disagree, accept my challenge, and show me your band recording. Show me an original that is a better song, arrangement, and performance.

TeXas Video Showdown hits 3,000

August 10, 2017

Dear Reader,

My musical protest against the 3 CEOs that control so much of music, and for all the rest of the world, has reached another milestone. 3,000 views.
Come view it and help raise awareness. Give me a thumbs up too – that means lifting a finger – literally! Here’s more.

We are told, year after year, to only talk about, support, and buy music from the same 6 or so teen pop stars. The real story is one the music media won’t dare tell you. Music is falling fast, 1% of musicians make 70% of the money, and everyone else is so uninformed that they don’t even know that it’s going on. Yet everyone does know that music is dull, radio is awful, concerts are a rip off, music media never covers anyone really different, and there is never news of anyone against all this! That’s why the musicians in Dallas are against it, and why you never hear about that either!

The Music Problem, 3 Company Presidents Determine all Music?

March 10, 2016

Let’s look at the problem with the music industry this way.

There are 3 record companies that control 80% of the business, Warners, Universal, Sony. Each has a president. That’s 3 presidents controlling the music industry.

Do you think 3 people should determine the fate of 80% of the music business? No of course not, but they do now. The 3 have made it clear,

We only support a generic pop sound. We only promote that type of music, and only for a few. (Swift, Beyonce, Bieber, Adele, Gaga, Perry, and the media flavor of the week.)

What else are they saying?

You play folk music? We don’t do folk, so you are out of a career. You play heavy metal? We don’t do heavy metal, so you are out of a career.
You play religious music? We don’t do religious music, so you are out of a career. You play classic rock? We don’t do classic rock, so you are out of a career.
You play classical music? We don’t do classical music, so you are out of a career. You play roots music? We don’t do roots music, so you are out of a career. You play kid’s music? We don’t do kid’s music, so you are out of a career.
You play jazz or big band? We don’t do jazz or big band, so you are out of a career. You play instrumentals? We don’t do instrumentals, so you are out of a career.
You play old style soul, r & b, or rap? We don’t do old style, so you are out of a career. You play ???. We don’t do ???, so you are out of a career.

Here’s what they are saying loud and clear to musicians, and music lovers.

Musician: Doesn’t matter how good you are. Quality just gets in the way of how we make money on generic music from a tiny handful of over produced, and over promoted pop stars. AND
Music Lover: Doesn’t matter what music you like. You’ll have to search it out on the net, or some small club. You’ll never hear your favorites on the radio stations we control, or in our media we own.

3 Execs advice?

Try to find some small record company where you might make about minimum wage with no chance of real success and don’t bother us, you don’t fit the money making formula.

Then if someone happens to have a hit, we’ll buy the musician, or the record company, or distribute the record company – and you’ll sign a legal web that promises the musician all, and gives them nothing. We have a long track record to prove it.

My advice?

Rebel against this. When 3 people have that much control in music everything is wrong. Choose to do nothing, and you ruin just about everyone’s chance at a career in music.
