The Music Problem, 3 Company Presidents Determine all Music?

March 10, 2016

Let’s look at the problem with the music industry this way.

There are 3 record companies that control 80% of the business, Warners, Universal, Sony. Each has a president. That’s 3 presidents controlling the music industry.

Do you think 3 people should determine the fate of 80% of the music business? No of course not, but they do now. The 3 have made it clear,

We only support a generic pop sound. We only promote that type of music, and only for a few. (Swift, Beyonce, Bieber, Adele, Gaga, Perry, and the media flavor of the week.)

What else are they saying?

You play folk music? We don’t do folk, so you are out of a career. You play heavy metal? We don’t do heavy metal, so you are out of a career.
You play religious music? We don’t do religious music, so you are out of a career. You play classic rock? We don’t do classic rock, so you are out of a career.
You play classical music? We don’t do classical music, so you are out of a career. You play roots music? We don’t do roots music, so you are out of a career. You play kid’s music? We don’t do kid’s music, so you are out of a career.
You play jazz or big band? We don’t do jazz or big band, so you are out of a career. You play instrumentals? We don’t do instrumentals, so you are out of a career.
You play old style soul, r & b, or rap? We don’t do old style, so you are out of a career. You play ???. We don’t do ???, so you are out of a career.

Here’s what they are saying loud and clear to musicians, and music lovers.

Musician: Doesn’t matter how good you are. Quality just gets in the way of how we make money on generic music from a tiny handful of over produced, and over promoted pop stars. AND
Music Lover: Doesn’t matter what music you like. You’ll have to search it out on the net, or some small club. You’ll never hear your favorites on the radio stations we control, or in our media we own.

3 Execs advice?

Try to find some small record company where you might make about minimum wage with no chance of real success and don’t bother us, you don’t fit the money making formula.

Then if someone happens to have a hit, we’ll buy the musician, or the record company, or distribute the record company – and you’ll sign a legal web that promises the musician all, and gives them nothing. We have a long track record to prove it.

My advice?

Rebel against this. When 3 people have that much control in music everything is wrong. Choose to do nothing, and you ruin just about everyone’s chance at a career in music.

Ninth Day Music Message

The Texas Video Showdown is between two sides in the music business – 5 sound alike pop stars that control the music business on one side, and the thousands of other musicians that have been marginalized out of careers on the other.

The five or so sound alike pop stars include: Taylor Swift,, Katy Perry, Beyonce, Justin Bieber, Adele, Gaga, and 1 Direction.

The Texas Video Showdown, youtube video challenges the entire music industry.

Some say there is plenty of good music out there, you just have to search for it.
But I say why? Why should the music business be controlled by bad music instead of the best music out there, and why is it our job to find the good music on our own? Is the music business built on bad music? If so why do people put up with that. They don’t!

Some say they are content that they have favorites that are not the karaoke pop, and they get all the good music they want. But that attitude is keeping all those musicians from their careers.

Do you know a great musician? Do you have favorites that are not one of the 5?
I can predict that right now he/she/they are out of a career and making close to minimum wage no matter how good they are, or how hard they works. Buying a CD or t-shirt won’t help them. Support them by opening music up again so great talent has a chance. Vote for indie musicians not 5 pop stars in the Texas Video Showdown. Show the industry that enough is enough and too little is not enough!

Want to join other musicians and bring some fun, rebellion, and vitality to the music business, and open it up to more than a few pop stars? Take a stand right here – vote thumbs up on this video. Bring it down to one video and one place to concentrate the start of a change in music. You are for indie musicians or you are for corporate pop stars. You decide. When music has jumped the shark we need a shake up. Texas Video Showdown.

Birthday of Elvis and his song Treat Me Nice is in the middle of the Music Change

January 8, 2016

Today is the birthday of Elvis Presley and he is still relevant to music. His song Treat Me Nice, is leading the Texas Video Showdown a video challenge of a music industry that is down to 5 pop stars. Vote – go to the link and vote thumbs up. Join a thousand others.

People should know that one indie musician, representing all musicians except a few pop stars, has challenged the 5+ pop stars to the Texas Video Showdown, and Swift, Perry, Beyonce, Bieber, 1D, etc. even with all their fans, are loosing so far. Readers that want a big music change – please vote for the thousands of good musicians that are not one of the five or so sound alike pop stars. if you know a great musician, they are probably out of the music business no matter how good they are.

The indie musician, Hunkasaurus, has purposely made the worst video ever – he didn’t even comb his hair – with simple solid fun music to challenge the over produced generic corporate music of the sound alike pop stars. Help him by voting thumbs up on youtube.

Texas Video Showdown: Hunkasaurus versus Taylor Swift, Madonna, and Katy Perry

May 21, 2015

Hunkasaurus and his cheap bad video with his beat up standard guitar, and no giant set behind him but a blank wall, representing all the thousands of indy musicians, has challenged Taylor Swift, Madonna, Katy Perry, Bieber, etc., and their very expensive recent videos, to a video showdown.

Hunkasaurus  says his video is not as pretty or trendy or well produced, or as filled with famous people,, but that it is better music,  because it’s just music – one take, one guitar, one revolution. Compare this with the most recent cameo full, very expensive productions of Madonna,  Katy Perry, and Taylor Swift. Hunkasaurus and His Pet Dog Guitar.

VOTE:  By going to the video below.  Thumbs up is a vote for Hunkasaurus.  Thumbs down is a vote for Swift, Madonna, and Perry.

Recent major production videos by Taylor Swift, Madonna, and Katy Perry, may be the videos that jump the shark for mainstream musicians.  Not because they are bad, They are ok, and a lot like most of all the other mainstream videos; but because each is such a big production that no other musician can match it.  Hey pop musicians, where do you go from this? You can’t do bigger than these 3. You can’t pack videos with more stars.  The only direction is back to basics.  That’s the Hunkasaurus message, combined with a little rebellion, excitement, and fun! https://musea.wordpress.com/2011/08/29/post-bands-music-revolution-quick-summary/ Photo 1
