Who is Getting the Cash from Streaming?

February 17, 2018

This article from Digital Music News is about streaming revenue. https://www.digitalmusicnews.com/2018/02/14/spotify-apple-music-top-songs/

The scary fact coming out of it is this:

99% of the 377 billion streams are for the top 10% of streamed tracks!

That means a handful of major stars are making all the money, and the crumbs, 1% of streaming revenue, is left to 90% of musicians.

Yet another reason for the music revolution.

The Music You Love

February 15, 2018

My suggestion is that the music you hear during puberty is the music you like from then on. This study seems to support that.

Flooring for the Artist’s Floor

February 8, 2018

This youtube video shows how to cover your floors with brown paper bags. Looks great.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MvR2pfSdrmw&list=WL&index=11

So what if you took the idea further. Try these ideas.

1 Comics, cover your floor in comic books
2. Fashion magazine photos.
3. The art of your favorite artist, an all Monet floor, or Matisse, or …? 4. Sci-fi illustrations, or science formulas.
5. Your favorite singer, plus music sheets from that person’s hits! 6. Flower photos, or bird photos, or cat photos, or all insects!

Perhaps a solid color background would better show off the art on the floor. Maybe a center section of the art and a solid border all around it. Lots of ideas here!

What Makes Great Music (according to 3 CEOs)

February 8, 2018

What Makes Great Music (According to the 3 CEOs)

1. Start in the studio with a synthesizer, a drum machine, and auto tune. Make sure every instrument is a mechanical device. You want a fake, robotic sound where every note can be controlled

2. Get a song written by a committee so there is no heart left in it by the time they are done. Make sure the lyrics don’t mean much, never protest anything, and are watered down a lot.

3. Find a producer who can over produce it and bury any warmth or feeling, in excess layers of noise.

4. Take any soul out of the voice by over tracking it till it’s a pitch perfect robot sound.

5. Make a video where you spend thousands, so no indie can afford to match it. Best if it’s some weird surrealism that hides the song under flashy visuals that look like cotton candy tastes..

6. Give it to the press that praises sound alikes as if they are the best ever, and raves about generic music. Press release journalism is a must. Let them interview you where every question is a complement.

Video, All the Birds in the World

February 4, 2018

Just posted a youtube video minutes ago, of a very happy keyboard song. I’ve been writing a massive amount of music, mostly on guitar with a break on the piano, and this little 5 chorder came out with a lot of spirit and joy.

Now imagine a sky with all the birds and listen.
