Lyrics Should Make Sense

Somewhere along the way, people decided lyrics didn’t have to make sense. That was a big mistake. I see a lot of lyricists thinking they can write any gibberish and it’s literature.
“The first object of a writer is to be understood.” Coleridge.
This quote works with lyrics too, SO lyricists, if in doubt about your lyrics, do this test.

When you are done with your lyrics, show them to a few people. They ALL should interpret them the same way. Even if the lyrics are atmospheric and vague, they ALL should get the same sense of the lyrics being atmospheric and vague.

If all the listeners  don’t get the same message, the fault is in the lyrics not the listener.
