Katy Perry “Dark Horse” video

Katy Perry: The 80’s called. They want their videos back.

I just finished watching Katy Perry’s* video to her song ‘Dark Horse’.

This is one expensive video production – note how only a few mainstream musicians could afford to do that? (There are basically only five: Perry, Swift, Gaga, Bieber, and Beyonce) So better play it safe and add some auto tuned vocals, to a generic song, with karaoke music that sounds like just about every other diva dance pop.

Part of the Postmod music revolution coming out of Dallas is to put the emphasis on the music not the visuals. Leave videos back in the 80’s when they were relevant. That opens music up to everyone, not just a deep pockets few. And when you stress the quality of music, you get new, vital, better music again, not a rehash of 30 years ago.
*Perry is one of 5 musicians that get more coverage than all the rest of the musicians in the world combined:
First Tier: Beyonce, Beiber, Gaga, Perry, or Swift.
Second Tier: 1D, JT, and Miley
Third Tier: Rhianna, Britney, Selena, Carrie, and the flavor of the day musician.
(Note we run out of major stars very quickly)
Fourth Tier: Thousands of good musicians outside corporate music – often as good or better.

We are down to not thousands of record companies, but three, three main ones that own 80% of the business. Universal, Sony, Warners. Don’t want to bow down to these corporate music behemouths? You are out of the music business. This has very little to do with good music. These five and a handfull of others are the musicians we are allowed to like, talk about, read reviews of, and hear endless – almost daily, promotion on.

Postmod Music- its 3 things, a revolution against what rock/rap/country/pop have become, its back to early rock and roll’s simple honesty, directness, and passion with an emphasis on melody and great SONGS, and it’s a music that includes all types of music from every place in the world.
(and It’s part of the overall art and media revolution).
