This struggling writer had gotten 5 books published that year, 1900. It was near Christmas and he needed some money for presents. He asked his publisher for an advance. They gave him a check on one of his book’s earnings. He thanked them and went home without looking at the check. When he handed it to his wife he noticed it was for 1,423.98 which is about 40 or 50 thousand in today’s money! The book that brought in this advance was the biggest seller of 1900 America. Name the book and the astounded author with the big check!
Readers, IF you like these puzzles and would like to resend them to friends, post them on any newsgroup, or any website, please do so. The more the merrier! Brand New Online Single: What’d I Say / Heartbreak Hotel

August 27, 2010

Hunkasaurus ONLINE Single release.

WHAT’D I SAY  / HEARTBREAK HOTEL.

by Hunkasaurus and His Pet Dog Guitar

These two songs show what I call my ‘fuzzy’ guitar style – one guitar, NO overdubbing of guitar, that plays base, rhythm, and lead all in one pass.

Hear the music so scary it’s banned by NPR and all its connected shows and stations.

What’d I say

Heartbreak Hotel

If you want honest music back on the radio, please ask NPR and it’s shows to stop its boycott of this Post-bands music – music that stresses quality, honesty, and simplicity, and opposes what rock has become.

PS I’m finishing up recording again this summer. Stay tuned for the 6th CD in the  one guitar one, voice series.

Hear more from the first 5 cd’s at

The answer to, and winner (if any) for, our last contest question of:
James Joyce was nearly blind during his final years. So he had to dictate part of his last novel, “Finnegan’s Wake” to a friend. The friend turned out to be one of the most celebrated writers of the century. Name the writer that helped Joyce with his final novel.
IS
Samuel Beckett, Irish avant-garde writer, dramatist, poet, and one of the key writers in the Theatre of the Absurd.
I had no eligible correct answers. Seems your still Waiting For Godot, to help you.

Dedicate Song for My Weekly Box Office Concerts (Tuesday and Wednesday)

August 23, 2010

Dedicate a song I do to anyone, (from anyone). Pick one I do, or suggest a message and I’ll find something to fit. Then I play the song in one of my Tuesday or Wednesday Night concerts in the Inwood Box Office here in Dallas Texas.  Then the sound waves waft out to the rest of the world.

World’s first and only Box Office Concerts – and world’s first and only live dedications.

For a partial list of songs I do, see http://hunkasaurus.com .

Nice and special gift for anyone anywhere. Something different and fun.

Set of New Poems from This Week

August 20, 2010

Poems for this week 8/14/10

POEMS

1.

Round and round

go Saturn’s rings.

it’s a perpetual

motion machine.

2.

Kafka came to me

a ghost in a dream.

I told him how much

the world loved his work.

“Which ones do they like?”

“Them all,” I replied.

He thought for a moment

and scrunched up his face

and told me to tell them

“When they become ghosts

then I’ll give thanks!”

3.

… and I saw that the women

wore trained butterflies

to adorn their hair.

4.

Everyone donated their hand mirrors

to a pile of bronze in the middle of the village.

There to melt down to make a great bell.

The sun would shine and the heap would glow.

A scientist said that a photon on entering

would bounce in the mirrors for 30 years

before finding a way back out.

5.

there are parts of the sky

that are just stars, stars, stars.

You wake up bathed in light!

you go to sleep bathed in light!!

you ride your life bathed in light!

6.

These aliens are

very advanced

they charge 3 dollars

for a postage stamp!

7.

The assistant carried his master’s paintings

as they travelled from port to port.

He dreamed sometimes that the bag was God’s

and he was one of his many helpers.

And during creation, he would do as commanded

and pull from the sack a slice of stars,

or a sun and moon, or a herd of clouds,

or a mountain range colored blue,

a ribbon of rivers, or a mirror of ocean,

or a forest filled with the songs of birds.

And when that day’s work was done,

he’d tie up the bag and carry it on.

8.

All the stars

are blue shifted

and there is so

little time!

SAYINGS

The more edits in a film, the more dreamlike it is. The fewer edits the more realistic it is.

Math equation. The worse art gets, the more award shows there are.

The Hulk had the best lines!  (TV review).

A no hit wonder has no career. A one hit wonder has a career for life.

When everyone’s a winner, winning is meaningless.

Even with water he couldn’t grow rust.
